Classes Offered

Class placement is based on age and ability. Ages are used as a guideline. All class placements are at the discretion of the Director. Class levels can be multiple year programs.

EARLY CHILDHOOD – Creative Dance (ages 2-4), Ballet 1 (ages 4-7)

These classes include exercises for strength and coordination, creative movement, dance vocabulary, music, mime and basic ballet steps. These skills are enhanced through the use of props.

Prerequisite: Must be able to function independently for 45 minutes

CHILDREN’S DIVISION – Ballet 2 (ages 7-9)

These classes start with simple barre and center work. The work gradually becomes more challenging as the dancer’s technique develops. Lessons include ballet technique, stretching, simple combinations and musical phrasing.

Prerequisite: Must be able to function independently for 60 minutes

PRE-TEEN DIVISION – Ballet 3, Pre-Pointe/Pointe 1

In this division all work becomes more challenging as the dancer’s technique develops. Classes start with a full ballet barre or warm-up. Center work includes port de bras, adagio, petit and grand allegro (jumps) and turns. Placement, precision, total body dancing and musicality are stressed.

Pointe classes are by invitation only once the Director has ascertained a dancer’s readiness. The dancer’s ankles and feet must be strong enough to protect the bones and proper placement must be understood and able to be maintained. The student must be at least 11 years old. Dancers interested in going “en pointe” must take a minimum of two ballet classes a week in addition to a pointe class.

TEEN / ADULT DIVISION – Ballet 4, Pointe 2, Adult

This division offers intermediate and advanced work in ballet and pointe. Participants can also enjoy any lower division classes offered.
